Boy Scouts of America stands to lose about half of its East Idaho membership by 2020.

Ken Bernt, president of the Boy Scouts of America’s Grand Teton Council, recently provided that grim forecast. He’s about to embark on a dramatic restructuring to keep the organization viable.

For decades, most of the council’s troops have been affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which has automatically enrolled all of its boys in Scouting as its preferred youth program.
